review – Here in South Texas, it can get very hot from late March until late October. Keeping canned and bottled drinks nice and cold is always a challenge. Most drinks become lukewarm within 30 minutes, leaving enough water to fill a pool from a sweat bottle or can. Yeti has been selling double wall insulated can koozies for a while now. ToadFish has stepped up its efforts and created a cooler that not only keeps drinks cold for longer, but also prevents cans from tipping over. Read this article to find out how well it performs.

what is that?

As the review title states, the Toad Fish Anti-Tip Can Cooler is exactly what it says. This is a device that allows you to insert bottles and cans and keep them at or near their original low temperature. Also, proper installation on a flat, hole-free surface will prevent it from tipping over.

What's inside the box?

  • The can cooler is fitted with a standard rubber gasket and can be used with cans and large soda bottles. The color is teal, but white is also available.
  • 1 large rubber gasket for thin beer bottles, slim cans, etc.
  • 1 instruction manual

Hardware specifications

The Toadfish Can Cooler has suction cups so it stays upright even when bumped or shaken. Simply place the can cooler on a smooth surface and it will hold your drinks in place (firmly upright). To remove, simply lift straight up.

double wall vacuum insulation – Keeps drinks cold until the last sip

stainless steel – Made of high-grade stainless steel, it is puncture resistant and rust resistant.

rubber locking gasket – Removable rubber gasket to securely lock the can.

Optional slim can adapter – Slim can adapter allows you to attach non-standard size cans such as slim cans, bottles, and Coors.

Please note that anti-tip can coolers are designed to prevent drinks from tipping over even if bumped or shaken. It is not intended to be left at an angle greater than 25° for extended periods of time.

Design and function

The photo above shows the ToadFish can cooler next to the Yeti Rambler Colster. You may notice that ToadFish is slightly taller than Yeti. This does not mean that many cans and bottles are covered with his ToadFish. The extra height is due to a small suction cup attached to the bottom of the can cooler.

This photo shows the bottom of the ToadFish. The turquoise ring is a suction cup. It's a very shallow sucker. To use this, the ToadFish must be placed upright on a flat, smooth surface. Yeti does not have a black ring. Otherwise, the bottle won't fit.

This photo shows 16.9 fl oz soft drink bottles in both the ToadFish and Yetti coolers. You can see that roughly the same part of the bottle is covered by both coolers.

This photo is a top view showing the clearance inside the can with the large can rubber casket installed. I found this gasket to be perfect for 16.9 hydraulic pressure. Oz. Bottles, standard beer and soda cans.

This photo is a top shot showing the can gap with the slim bottle rubber casket installed. I found this gasket to be perfect for standard beer bottles and Red Bull type thin cans.

The following image shows how to pull back the large can gasket to attach a large bottle or beer can. You can still insert cans and bottles without doing this, but air will collect at the bottom, making it difficult to insert.

Finally, this last photo shows what a can cooler looks like with a standard soda can installed. In this case, you will find that you need to use a thinner gasket.

We've created two videos to explain how can coolers handle falls. This first video shows a can cooler fitted with a large rubber gasket to allow regular beer bottles to be inserted. If you used beer bottles, you may notice that the top of the cooler looks a little fat. That's because you installed the larger gasket straight on top of the smaller gasket. I later discovered that I could remove the entire smaller gasket from the cooler to expose the metal cooler and install the larger gasket in its place. I like to install the larger gasket on top of the smaller gasket. It provides even more insulation and no risk of losing small gaskets.

The following video shows how to install a cooler on top of a bike's tank. I'm trying to replicate a video on the ToadFish website. Although the surface is smooth, the bottle cannot stand up straight. You'll also notice that it took him two tries to increase the suction power of the cooler. The cooler must always be placed directly on the water surface. The cooler worked really well without tipping over.

my favorite thing

  • I like that the rubber gasket can be easily replaced. The Yeti cannot hold a soda bottle unless you completely unscrew the black plastic ring. The ToadFish creates a perfect seal around the bottle, while the Yeti leaves a small gap.
  • I like the teal color of the can cooler. With no exposed stainless steel, the outside of the cooler remains cool to the touch.
  • I like the anti-tip function of the can cooler. This cooler was originally designed with fishing sportsmen in mind. You can see what a great feature this is on a rocking ship.

What needs improvement

I love this can cooler and it's my everyday drink holder. I can't think of anything I would change.

final thoughts

If you get “tipsy” in a hot environment, I think this is the perfect can cooler for you. As I said earlier, I think this is a great item to have on your boat. I've also seen it used in riding lawn mowers. All you need to do is fix it on a smooth surface and you're ready to go.

Updated March 4, 2020

This has become my favorite koozie at home. It keeps your drinks as cold as any Yeti ever, and you don't have to remove the cap to keep your soft drink bottle in place. I also like that it fits in my car's cup holder, unlike the yeti, which is too thick.
